About the Event
MG Brad Gericke served as the Director for Strategy, Plans, and Policy within the U.S. Army’s G-3/5/7 from July 2019 to April 2022. As the Army’s senior strategist, MG Gericke not only provided strategic assessments and advice to the Chief of Staff and other Army senior leaders, he also oversaw the training, education, and development of all the Army’s strategists (Functional Area 59). In his prior assignment, MG Gericke served as the Deputy Director for Joint Strategic Planning in the Joint Staff J-5.
From 1996 to 1998, MG Gericke served as an instructor and, later, assistant professor within the Department of History at the United States Military Academy. He completed his graduate studies at Vanderbilt University prior to reporting to the Department of History.
MG Gericke graduated from the United States Military Academy with a BS in European History in 1988. He entered the Army as an armor officer, serving in a number of positions in 2-67 Armor and deploying to Operation Desert Shield/Storm. After graduating from the Armor Officer Advanced Course, MG Gericke served in 2-72 Armor in Korea, eventually commanding D Company.
Following teaching, MG Gericke attended Command and General Staff College, then served as a Project Officer within the Officer Personnel Management System XXI. Next, MG Gericke was assigned to FORSCOM as a plans officer and then Aide to the Commanding General. Later assignments involved advising senior leaders at multiple levels, including the Vice Chief of Staff of the Army, the commander of Multi-National Forces – Iraq, the Undersecretary of Defense for Policy, and the Chief of Staff of the Army. He also served as a planner in Eighth Army, Central Command, and the Joint Staff. MG Gericke has deployed in support of Operations Desert Shield/Storm and Iraqi Freedom.
MG Gericke received a BS in modern historical studies (Europe) from the United States Military Academy and an MA and Ph.D. from Vanderbilt University. He also graduated with a MMAS in Strategy from the United States Army Command and General Staff College and an MS in National Security Strategy from National Defense University.
